Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Marko Mihkelson, has called for European nations to join the US and Baltic states in imposing sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream.
In a statement shared on X, Mihkelson declared: “Day 31. Georgians are with Europe not with Russia. European countries should take example from the Baltic states and the US and impose sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and other power grabbers in Georgia.”
Mihkelson’s remarks come amid escalating international scrutiny over Ivanishvili’s alleged role in undermining Georgia’s democratic institutions and aligning the country closer to Russian influence. Several countries, including the US, have already sanctioned Ivanishvili for his actions, which are seen as detrimental to Georgia’s European aspirations.
