Mikheil Kavelashvili: “For centuries, Georgians have lived in harmony with people of different ethnicities and religions”

In his inauguration speech, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili emphasized the nation’s long-standing tradition of coexistence and mutual respect among diverse ethnic and religious communities.

“For centuries, the Georgian people have lived harmoniously alongside individuals of different ethnicities and religions,” Kavelashvili stated.

He highlighted the unique ability of Georgians to foster friendship and loyalty, which led people from various ethnic backgrounds to quickly embrace Georgia as their homeland and, when needed, fight alongside Georgians to defend it.

“We have always been distinguished by our humanitarian nature, respect for diversity, high tolerance, and, most importantly, our exceptional ability to foster friendship and loyalty, as well as love and respect for our neighbors. This is why people of different ethnic origins often regarded Georgia as their own homeland and stood shoulder to shoulder with Georgians to protect it. History is full of examples of such heroism. I am proud that even today, citizens from ethnic minority groups actively participate in our public and political life. I want to express my deep gratitude and love for them. It is our duty to ensure that every individual feels like a full-fledged citizen of Georgia,” Kavelashvili declared.
