The European Union is prepared to take a leadership role in supporting Ukraine, but European leaders hope that US President-elect Donald Trump will not withdraw American support for Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated.
“I am confident that all other EU member states, and hopefully the United States as well, are ready to continue supporting Ukraine,” Kallas said. “The EU is also prepared to take on this leadership if the US chooses not to.”
Kallas emphasized that it is premature to speculate about the future of US support for Ukraine but underscored the importance of a unified international effort.
“It is not in America’s interest for Russia to become the strongest country in the world,” Kallas remarked, reaffirming the EU’s commitment to Ukraine amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges.
