GD’s Mdinaradze: “Donald Trump’s statements are reassuring, our positions align”

Mamuka Mdinaradze, leader of the parliamentary Georgian Dream (GD) majority, expressed optimism about recent statements by US President-elect Donald Trump, emphasizing alignment in key policy priorities. According to Mdinaradze, Trump’s pledges to defeat the so-called “Deep State,” prioritize family values, and end the war in Ukraine resonate strongly with Georgia’s national interests.

“Trump’s commitment to defeating the deep state, promoting family values, and ending the war in Ukraine gives us hope. These priorities are reassuring not just for the US but for the world,” said Mdinaradze. He noted that the “Deep State” has long posed challenges for Georgia, claiming that it has pressured the country on various fronts, including targeting Georgian Dream founder and leader Bidzina Ivanishvili.

“The defeat of the ”Deep State” aligns perfectly with our national interests. This entity has worked against Georgia for years, and its influence has been evident in cases like the reputational damage inflicted on Swiss banks to pressure Ivanishvili,” Mdinaradze stated.

He also highlighted how ending the war in Ukraine could reduce external pressure on Georgia, particularly the “harmful agenda” of turning Georgia into a second front.

Mdinaradze drew parallels between Trump’s family-oriented policies and Georgia’s recent legislative efforts to protect traditional values. “When the European Parliament’s resolution demanded the repeal of our family values law, it was clear we faced coordinated pressure. Trump’s defense of family values aligns with our stance on this issue,” he remarked.

Mdinaradze also criticized opposition figures for allegedly attempting to falsely portray themselves as connected to Trump’s administration, even referencing their attendance at his upcoming inauguration. “Our opponents are trying to create the illusion that Trump has invited them. But their history of harsh criticism toward Trump won’t be forgotten. Their past remarks, branding him a ‘Russian project,’ are now backfiring,” he said.

He concluded by stating that Trump’s alignment with values important to Georgia offers optimism for a potential easing of external pressures on the country. Mdinaradze dismissed opposition efforts as insincere attempts to gain favor with the incoming US administration.
