Salome Zourabichvili slams Georgian Gov’t policies, urges people to resist

Former President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, took to Facebook to criticize the Georgian government’s approach to foreign aid, economic policies, and national identity.

In her post, Zourabichvili addressed the ongoing debate about the suspension of international grants, pushing back against claims that these funds only benefited “spoiled NGOs.” She accused those spreading this message of ignorance, ingratitude, and short-sightedness.

“You may stop so-called financial assistance, but what did the Georgian people really gain from these grants aside from privileged NGOs?” she wrote, before condemning the idea that Georgia could thrive without international support in key sectors like education, healthcare, security, and agriculture.

Zourabichvili warned that relying on investments from Arab developers—as the government has recently encouraged—would not improve education, protect disabled citizens, eliminate diseases like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, or strengthen the country’s defense and law enforcement standards.

The former president also criticized the sale of Georgian land to foreign investors, particularly in protected areas, and expressed concerns over mass immigration that could reshape the country’s demographic landscape.

“When were we ever so thrilled to sell off our lands, including protected territories? When did we celebrate the mass influx of foreigners not as guests, but as future landlords?” she asked, questioning the government’s decision to prioritize real estate deals over national interests.

Zourabichvili concluded her statement with a call to action, urging Georgians to wake up and resist what she sees as an existential threat to the nation’s sovereignty and cultural identity.

“This is not just about political choices or past rivalries. We are facing a much greater challenge: either we surrender our statehood, identity, past, and future—or we stand up and choose our own path!” she declared.
