Kyrgyzstan will begin legalizing vehicles with breakaway Abkhazian license plates starting March 1, according to the news outlet Ayaira.
The decision affects tens of thousands of right-hand drive vehicles that were illegally imported into the country. However, officials clarified that the process only applies to the registration of foreign-plated vehicles and does not authorize their import or sale.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Kamchybek Tashiev previously stated that many of these cars are used as taxis and often contribute to traffic accidents.
According to reports, the first phase of the legalization process will cover vehicles with proper documentation, while the second phase will include undocumented but technically sound cars.
