Georgia arrests 22 in anti-drug operation

Georgian law enforcement has arrested 22 individuals, including 19 suspected drug dealers, as part of a large-scale operation targeting narcotics trafficking. The arrests were carried out by officers of the Central Criminal Police Department, along with regional police units from Tbilisi, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Adjara, Imereti, and Shida Kartli, in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Among those detained are Georgian nationals as well as citizens of Russia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Turkey. They face charges related to the illegal possession, sale, and attempted distribution of large and especially large quantities of narcotic substances. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, investigators conducted undercover operations, including controlled drug purchases and secret audio and video surveillance. Searches of the suspects’ homes and personal belongings led to the seizure of large quantities of drugs, including heroin, amphetamine, methadone, buprenorphine, alpha-PVP, and marijuana. Law enforcement also confiscated cash, packaging materials, and digital scales believed to be linked to drug sales.
