Georgian authorities investigate alleged human trafficking scheme involving Thai women

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into allegations of human trafficking following a report from Interpol in Bangkok, according to an official statement released by the ministry.

The case is linked to information first reported in the Thai media, which claims that a trafficking network operated in Georgia under the guise of legal surrogacy. Victims were allegedly lured into the country with promises of lawful surrogacy services but were instead forcibly subjected to egg retrieval procedures on a monthly basis.

According to foreign media reports, the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, a Thai organization advocating for victims of abuse and exploitation, disclosed during a press conference that approximately 100 Thai women were involved in the scheme.

Authorities in Georgia are investigating the case under Part 3 of Article 143 of the country’s Criminal Code, which pertains to human trafficking. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet provided further details regarding possible arrests or the involvement of Georgian nationals in the alleged network.
