Man charged with premeditated murder in Sagarejo

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has formally charged 41-year-old Giorgi Kurdovanidze with the premeditated murder of 38-year-old Giorgi Peikrishvili in Sagarejo, Kakheti region.

According to the investigation, on February 7, in one of the villages of Sagarejo Municipality, the accused fatally shot the victim with a firearm, allegedly driven by revenge. Law enforcement officers arrested Kurdovanidze on February 8.

“The prosecution will request pretrial detention for the suspect within the legally prescribed timeframe,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.

Peikrishvili’s body was discovered in an uninhabited area near the village of Antoki, about five kilometers from Sagarejo. The victim’s father, Ioseb Peikrishvili, told journalists that a longstanding dispute might have been the motive for the murder but did not specify further.

“A shepherd found the body. From what I hear, he may have been killed in a car and then dumped there. My son left home at 2:00 PM on February 7 and likely met the person who later killed him soon after. We were informed at 4:00 PM. He was shot in the heart. We don’t know anything else,” said Ioseb Peikrishvili.

Giorgi Kurdovanidze, the suspect, is an employee of the Economic Development and Property Management Service at the Sagarejo Municipality. His family has not commented on the case.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 108 (premeditated murder) and 236, Part 3 (illegal acquisition and possession of ammunition) of the Georgian Criminal Code. If convicted, Kurdovanidze faces 10 to 15 years in prison.
