The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, on Wednesday outlined a plan for new elections, amid her claims of electoral manipulations in last year’s parliamentary vote and ongoing protests against the Government’s decision last year to halt EU integration until 2028.
The initiative, titled “Plan – New Elections,” is designed to ensure free and fair elections across the country, she claimed.
Zurabishvili’s plan consists of five key points:
Establishing the Conditions for the Elections: Ensuring a fair and secure environment for the electoral process.
Preparing an “Army” of Election Commissions and Observers: Mobilizing trained personnel to oversee the elections and monitor voting processes effectively.
Protecting the New Elections from Fraud: Collaborating with international partners to prevent electoral manipulation and safeguard integrity.
Coordination Between Political Forces: Promoting dialogue and cooperation among political parties to ensure smooth election procedures.
A Unified Election Program – The “Georgian Charter”: Prioritizing key reforms, including the release of political prisoners, repealing “Russian laws” [in reference to foreign transparency law] and restoring the fairness of the judicial system.
