Trump says Ukraine should forget about NATO

US President Donald Trump has stated that he does not support Ukraine’s NATO membership as a means to end the war with Russia.

“I can say one thing – you can forget about NATO. I think that’s probably the reason this whole thing [Russia’s war against Ukraine] started,” Trump said.

He suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin would be forced to make concessions in negotiations over Ukraine but did not specify what compromises he was referring to.

“Yes, he will make concessions; he will have to. I believe that thanks to our victory in the elections, this war will end. I also believe that if we don’t win, if this administration stays in power, the war will drag on for a long time, and he [Putin] wants to take everything,” Trump stated.

Trump reiterated his intention to meet with Putin soon, expressing hope for a deal to end the war.
