President Mikheil Kavelashvili has awarded members of the Georgian national men’s handball team, along with their coaches, staff, and the leadership of the National Handball Federation, with the Orders of Honor and Medals of Honor in recognition of their sporting achievements.
The awards, presented jointly by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, celebrated the team’s historic performance in the qualifying stage of the 2024 European Handball Championship and their showing in the final stage of the tournament.
In a speech at the ceremony, Kavelashvili expressed gratitude to the athletes for their success and commended their dedication and perseverance.
“I would like to thank each of you for the historic result you achieved in the qualifying stage of the 2024 European Championship. This is the result of your hard work, determination, and self-belief,” he said. “Sports best demonstrate the strong and indomitable character of the Georgian people – qualities that strengthen our nation the most.”
The President also highlighted the unifying power of sporting victories, adding that he was confident the team would bring further success to Georgia in the future. He extended his best wishes for their upcoming competition on March 13, assuring them of the unwavering support of Georgian fans.
“When you go out on the field, the Georgian fans are behind you, whose love and support will definitely help you achieve victory,” he stated.
Kobakhidze, and Minister of Sports, Shalva Gogoladze, also congratulated the team on receiving state honours, reaffirming the government’s “commitment” to supporting Georgian athletes.
