Starting June 4, 2025, the technical specifications and design of Georgian electronic ID cards, temporary and permanent residence permits, and temporary identification cards will change, according to an order issued by Justice Minister Anri Okhanashvili.
The key update in the new ID cards is the addition of a QR code, which will allow for online verification of the information printed on the document.
As outlined in the minister’s decree, the ID card will include essential personal details such as the holder’s name, surname, gender, citizenship, date and place of birth, personal number, photograph, signature sample, issuing authority, date of issuance, and expiration date.
A long-standing rule remains unchanged: ID numbers cannot contain the sequence “666” in a row. This regulation was first introduced in 2011 after concerns from some citizens who associate the number with a satanic symbol.
