A large wildfire has erupted in Tsalenjikha, with 25 different fire spots reported across the municipality, according to Tamar Belkania, the Deputy Mayor of Tsalenjikha.
Belkania highlighted that the most critical fire is in Sachino, where flames are gradually approaching residential areas.
“At this stage, there are exactly 25 different fire locations in Tsalenjikha. The most concerning is the fire in Sachino, which is steadily moving toward a populated area. It has already damaged several cemeteries in Lekhulordeti,” she stated.
Currently, two fire trucks are working to contain the blaze, but strong winds are complicating the firefighting efforts. Emergency services have already requested additional fire trucks from the region, and a call has been made to emergency service 112.
Authorities suspect that the fire was caused by locals burning old vegetation in preparation for spring, an act that is punishable by law.
Due to the fire, electricity has been cut off in the affected areas. Belkania noted that once the firefighting operation is complete, energy company Sakenergo will begin restoring damaged power lines.
