Opposition coalition leader slams ex-PM for appearling before Investigative Commission

Nika Gvaramia, a leader of the Coalition for Change, criticized For Georgia leader and ex-PM Giorgi Gakharia’s recent appearance before the parliamentary investigative commission, calling it a serious mistake that served only the interests of Bidzina Ivanishvili and his party.

“Gakharia’s presence there was a grave mistake. He was speaking for the ‘Georgian Dream’ audience, and everything he said was aimed at them,” Gvaramia stated.

According to him, Gakharia’s participation did not benefit himself, his party, or the public. “There is no research showing that former ‘Georgian Dream’ voters now support Gakharia’s party. Such a study simply doesn’t exist. Before our coalition was formed, supporters of the United National Movement often considered Gakharia’s party as their second choice. Some people always vote either for the government or the former government,” Gvaramia noted.

He added that fear of criminal responsibility may have played a role in Gakharia’s decision to appear. “Why did he go? I don’t know. People react to fear differently. Fear is a powerful thing.”

“This was a major mistake that brought no good to anyone except Bidzina Ivanishvili and his party,” Gvaramia concluded.

Giorgi Gakharia attended the session of the temporary parliamentary investigative commission on April 14.
