Two detained during protest on Rustaveli Avenue on Sunday, police say

Two individuals were detained during a protest on Rustaveli Avenue in central Tbilisi on Sunday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The Ministry said the detainees – identified as Giorgi Ortoidze and Giorgi Samkharadze – have been accused of disobeying police orders, an offence under Article 173 of Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offenses.

Authorities say the detentions were administrative in nature.

Protests erupted in Georgia in November 2024, following the government’s decision to halt the country’s EU integration until 2028.
