Georgian Patriarch Ilia II has expressed sadness over certain scenes staged during the opening of the Olympic Games in France.
Echoing the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s statement, he noted, “We watched with great sorrow as the Paris ceremony included performances that were offensive to Christianity and the Holy Gospel, as well as to every civilized individual who respects religious symbols and the right to believe.”
Patriarch Ilia II added, “We share in the widespread outrage and grief caused by the blasphemous nature of the staging, which transformed the grand opening into an affront to universal human dignity and a platform for LGBT+ ideology.”
