Occupation forces illegally detain two Georgian citizens in Gali district

Representatives of the Russian-controlled occupation regime have illegally detained two Georgian citizens from the village of Otobaia, located in the occupied Gali district, according to the State Security Service of Georgia.

The occupation authorities confirmed the detentions through the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) hotline, revealing that the so-called “court” had sentenced the individuals to two months of pretrial detention. The charges were linked to the alleged “organization of illegal migration,” and the detainees were currently being held at the
“Abkhazia State Security Service Isolator”, the agency said.

In response, the State Security Service of Georgia has informed international partners and the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions about the incident, activating all available mechanisms to secure the immediate release of the detained individuals.

The illegal actions of the occupation regime continue to disrupt the daily lives of local residents and significantly threaten the security environment in the region. The State Security Service emphasized the importance of the unconditional release of those unlawfully detained.
The international community has consistently condemned the occupation regime’s violent actions against Georgian citizens, criticizing the criminal practices entrenched in Georgia’s occupied territories.

“Responsibility for all destructive actions carried out in the occupied regions of Georgia and along the occupation line rests with the occupying power,” the State Security Service stressed.
