Georgia’s border police arrests five for illegal border crossings

The Border Police of Georgia have arrested five individuals on charges related to illegal border crossings, group crossings, and aiding in illegal border activities.

The arrests occurred during an operation at the Charali border sector of the Akhaltsikhe Division, the agency said on Wednesday.

The detainees, identified as M.A. (born 1978), O. (born 1972), V.B. (born 1990), F. (born 1988), and J.O. (born 1992), were apprehended for illegally crossing Georgia’s state border in a group and assisting others in doing so.

The investigation revealed that M.A. and O. crossed the Georgian border from Turkey in a group, bypassing official checkpoints. They were aided by V.B. and F., while J.O. also crossed illegally with their assistance.

The crime carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
