Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday pledged the United National Movement (UNM) and its satellite parties would face judgment for alleged crimes, regardless of whether they secure seats in the next convocation of parliament.
Kobakhidze made this remark during a briefing held at the Georgian Dream ruling party’s office, emphasizing that those responsible would not evade accountability.
“Two months ago, sociological research indicated that the UNM had 10 percet support. None of the other political parties, except the UNM, had the resources to surpass the 5 percent threshold,” Kobakhidze said.
“The unification efforts we are witnessing among the opposition are a response to this situation. I believe that, with high probability, at least two entities will enter the next parliament: Georgian Dream and one of the opposition coalitions. How political processes will evolve afterward is for society to decide. However, it is within the framework of the next parliament that the UNM and its allied parties should be judged.
Whether they cross the threshold or not, no one will escape judgment for the crimes they committed,” he said.
