Opposition UNM Member Names Ruling Party Founder as Main Threat to Georgia

Khatia Dekanoidze, Deputy Chair of the opposition party United National Movement (UNM) National Committee, has labeled Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, as the primary threat to Georgia’s future.

Dekanoidze’s comments highlighted her concerns about Ivanishvili’s impact on the country’s political and international standing. She stressed that Ivanishvili’s policies and actions have led to significant negative consequences for Georgia, including the adoption of the law on Foreign Influence, which she claimed aligns the country more closely with Russian interests. This alignment, she added, has resulted in Georgia’s increasing isolation from its international allies and obstructed its path toward European Union membership.

“Since 2012, Bidzina Ivanishvili has represented an existential threat to our country… This government has clearly stated its attitude: it is isolation, distancing the country from our international friends, and creating obstacles to European integration,” Dekanoidze said.

The opposition MP called on Georgians to unite in their mission to remove Ivanishvili from power to safeguard the country’s democratic and international standing.
