All allegations on Russia’s alleged use of Georgia to evade sanctions were ungrounded – finance minister

Lasha Khutsishvili, the Georgian finance minister, on Thursday said all allegations voiced on Russia’s alleged use of Georgia to circumvent international sanctions imposed on it for invading Ukraine last year were “unfounded”, and Tbilisi had “always acted” in line with international obligations.

The comment came on the heels of claims by domestic opposition that Moscow may use Georgia for its own interests after resuming direct flights and lifting visa regime with the country on Wednesday.

“We have not seen anything except false information and baseless accusations – we have not seen any corroborating evidence”, Khutsishvili said.

He added the spread of such “fake information” was “bad” and that the country’s authorities had to make comments on them.
