Archbishop Zenon: ‘Europe fights for us as our ancestors fought for Europe’

Archbishop Zenon of Dmanisi and Agarak-Tashiri has called on the Georgian public to unite in the upcoming October 26 general elections, emphasizing the significance of European peace and Georgia’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Writing on social media, the top cleric drew parallels between the struggles of Georgia’s ancestors and the current support from Europe, framing the election as a “key moment” for the country’s future.

“Our ancestors dedicated to Georgia fought for the security of Europe together with Georgia, now Europe is fighting for us, the descendants of our ancestors,” wrote Archbishop Zenon. He stressed that Europe’s support extends to Georgia’s prosperity, peace, security, and border protection. The cleric urged citizens not to allow divisions that could weaken the nation’s unity and its connection to the Georgian diaspora living in the West.

Addressing Georgia’s youth, the Archbishop highlighted their responsibility to lead with respect and love, encouraging them to guide the older generations toward peace and stability. He emphasized the value of human life and coexistence, invoking a spiritual call to action: “If God is for us, who will come against us?!”

Zenon described the election as a step toward securing Georgia’s place in the ancient Caucasian-European civilization, with an open invitation from Europe awaiting confirmation from Tbilisi.

“The door of Europe is open, and we are going to the elections for the European peace of Georgia, for the application that Georgia is a bridge to Europe for Asia itself,” he concluded.
