Coalition For Change: MEPs’ stance toward Georgian Gov’t is “objective”

Giga Lemonjava, a member of the Coalition for Change, stated that the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) hold a “very objective and critical” stance toward the ruling Georgian Dream government. He emphasized that the administration will soon face unprecedented pressure due to their actions both domestically and internationally.

“The primary message from the European Parliament is a refusal to recognize the recent elections. This is well-known both inside the country and abroad. Therefore, they will be placed under unprecedented pressure,’’ Lemonjava stated, arguing that the current Georgian government lacks legitimacy due to its grip on power.
Nika Melia, the leader of the coalition emphasized that no opposition party is going to use their mandates and cooperate with such a parliament. According to him, given the current political climate, cooperation with the ruling government is only possible if they are compelled to call new elections.

“This requires a complex strategy, and we are working on it,” Melia added, underlining that ongoing efforts are aimed at pressuring the authorities to initiate a fresh electoral process.

On November 13, the European Parliament held debates regarding Georgia, focusing primarily on the recent elections and the associated concerns over legitimacy and transparency.
