Republican Congressman Joe Wilson has expressed support for the Georgian people and urged bipartisan action to pass the MEGOBARI Act, which he views as critical to bolstering Georgia’s democracy.
“We will move forward; we are working with our leaders now to ensure that when the Act comes up for a vote, it passes,” Wilson told VOA, emphasizing the United States’ responsibility to stand with Georgia.
The congressman voiced disappointment over current challenges in Georgia, reaffirming his commitment to the country’s democratic aspirations. “I am deeply disappointed. We must stand with the people of Georgia again and again. The Act needs to be enacted—it is bipartisan, and we must stand with Georgia. We wish these brave, capable people all the best,” Wilson added.
Wilson also expressed respect for Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s leadership, pledging to support initiatives aligned with her vision for the country. “I respect what the President of Georgia is indicating. I will support whatever course she considers beneficial to the Georgian people, which is the full restoration of democracy in Georgia,” he said.
