US Congressman and a vocal advocate of Georgia, Joe Wilson has expressed strong support for the Georgian people following a mass demonstration in favor of the MEGIBARI Act. In a post on X, Wilson commended the protesters, calling them “courageous patriots” who seek a strong, democratic Georgia aligned with the West.
“The courageous Georgian People are patriots who want a strong country with close ties to America. They reject the tyrannical Ivanishvili regime and its attempt to sell Georgia to the Iranian regime and the Chinese Communist Party. The USA stands with Georgia!” Wilson wrote.
The MEGIBARI Act demonstration, which took place in Tbilisi, drew thousands of Georgians advocating for closer ties with the United States and the European Union.
The MEGIBARI Act, introduced in the US Congress earlier this year, seeks to increase US assistance to Georgia while imposing potential sanctions on individuals undermining the country’s democratic processes. If passed, it could significantly impact Georgia’s political landscape and its relations with Washington.
