Irakli Kobakhidze, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday emphasized the “crucial nature” of the cooperation between Georgia and China “across various dimensions”, during the visit of the party’s representatives to the country.
He highlighted the significance of both political and economic collaboration, asserting that the partnership held the potential to yield “tangible benefits” for the country and its population.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chairman of the foreign relations committee of the parliament and the member of the GD delegation in China, stressed meetings had commenced earlier during the day.
He underscored the importance of China’s support on priority issues for Georgia, such as territorial integrity. He mentioned that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, had committed “unwavering support” to Georgia’s territorial integrity.
He noted discussions also covered trade and economic relations, including the development of the Middle Corridor, where he noted “Georgia plays a crucial role as the shortest route for shipping goods between China and Europe:.
Irakli Chikovani, the fellow member of the party, also emphasized the “substantial role” of the visit in enhancing bilateral relations, particularly since the two countries signed a strategic deal last year.
