Czech President Petr Pavel expressed skepticism over US President-elect Donald Trump’s recent claims that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office. While Pavel doubts the feasibility of such a rapid resolution, he acknowledged his confidence that Trump would make significant efforts to end the conflict and reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Many countries are awaiting the new administration, hoping that Donald Trump will bring change, especially after his statement that he could end the war in 24 hours. I don’t believe this is realistic, but I do think he will make every effort to end this war and negotiate with President Putin,” Pavel stated.
Pavel also noted that such a scenario might not align with the interests of the European Union and Ukraine. According to Pavel, Trump’s advisors have suggested that Trump’s plan to end the war may involve concessions, including ceding occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia and delaying Ukraine’s NATO membership aspirations by at least 20 years.
