Damaged embankment collapses in Tbilisi, restoration work underway

A damaged embankment barrier on the left bank of the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi collapsed today, according to an official statement from Tbilisi City Hall. Restoration procedures are already underway.

City Hall emphasized that movement on the unaffected part of the road remains completely safe.

“We would like to provide the public with additional information regarding the issue on a specific road section on the left bank of the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi, which concerns the damage to the embankment barrier,” the statement reads.

City Hall explained that as soon as cracks appeared on the barrier and the road surface, immediate action was taken. The public was promptly informed about the traffic restrictions in the affected area. Yesterday, safety infrastructure was installed on the right lane designated for both pedestrians and vehicles. Additionally, preliminary studies and the preparation of technical specifications for the embankment barrier’s reconstruction began.

As expected, the damaged structure collapsed today, but all necessary measures have been taken, and the unaffected road section remains safe for use.

The City Hall pledged to keep the public updated on the progress of the restoration work.
