Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, expressed strong support for the ongoing protests in Georgia, where tens of thousands have taken to the streets for 24 consecutive days.
In a post on X, Tsahkna criticized the Georgian government for what he described as a betrayal of European values and democratic principles. “Georgians still loud & clear on what they think about authorities of Georgia turning their back on Europe & democracy,” he wrote, highlighting the growing public discontent over allegations of election fraud and the government’s refusal to accelerate EU accession talks.
The protests erupted following the recent parliamentary elections, which opposition parties and international observers claim were marred by systemic irregularities, voter intimidation, and a lack of transparency. Demonstrators are also demanding immediate progress on Georgia’s path to EU membership, rejecting the government’s decision to delay formal accession talks until 2028.
