The European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, emphasized the critical importance of Georgia reaffirming its commitment to EU membership and making progress on its path toward the European Union.
“In recent months and years, we have made historic decisions, and I am proud of the Commission’s success in terms of enlargement, as the progress has been truly impressive. We have received four new applications for membership – from Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Kosovo. Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have been granted candidate status. It is crucial for Georgia to confirm its dedication to joining the EU and to advance on this path. Candidates and potential candidates must demonstrate their full commitment to implementing necessary reforms. At the same time, we must ensure that the enlargement policy remains credible, predictable, and dynamic,” he stated.
Varhelyi also noted that the EU is ready to welcome new member states in the coming years, reaffirming the union’s preparedness for expansion.
