EU launches “Act for Georgia” project to strengthen civil society

The European Union has announced a new initiative, “Act for Georgia: A Strong and Active Civil Society for Change,” aimed at supporting civil society development in the country.

The two-year project (2025-2027) has a total budget of €1,568,328 and seeks to strengthen local civil society organizations, promote democratic governance, and enhance civic engagement across Georgia.

According to information published on the EU Eastern Partnership platform, the project will establish Civil Society Hubs in 10 regions of Georgia. These hubs will serve as institutional pillars for civil society, supporting local organizations and activists in addressing community challenges, advocating for change, and implementing positive reforms.

The initiative builds upon previous EU-funded programs, including the “Civil Society Development Initiative” (2017-2021) and the “Civil Society Initiative” (2021-2024).

The key objectives of the project are:

-Strengthening connections between civil society actors, businesses, media, and the broader public.

-Preparing civil society organizations for meaningful dialogue with the government when conditions allow.

-Enhancing the institutional and financial sustainability of local civil society groups, particularly by improving communication strategies and public outreach.
