The European Parliament’s latest resolution leaves no doubt: Georgia’s current government lacks legitimacy, according to the country’s fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili.
In a statement, Zourabichvili emphasized that the only path forward for Georgia is holding new elections.
“The European Parliament’s resolution leaves no doubt: Georgia’s current government has no legitimacy. The only way forward for our country is new, free, and fair elections. The people of Georgia must decide the country’s European future,” she wrote.
The European Parliament adopted another resolution on Georgia, with 400 MEPs voting in favor. The text strongly condemns recent developments in the country and refers to the ruling party, Georgian Dream, as the “so-called government.”
The resolution urges Georgian Dream to immediately end violent repression against peaceful protesters, political opponents, and media representatives. Additionally, it mentions the possibility of sanctions against specific individuals.
