Shalva Khachapuridze, a lawyer of imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said on Tuesday that the results of the third president’s toxicological examination was expected from the US in the coming days.
The lawyer claimed that a recommendation to conduct the examination for Saakashvili had been issued by the doctor of Vivamedi civilian clinic on May 25, where the third president has been undertaking treatment over the past five months, with the clinic officials dismissing the information.
Khachapuridze claimed that despite the doctor’s recommendation, no such checks had been conducted in the clinic so far.
The clinical director Zurab Chkhaidze, however, said that there was no request to conduct such checks.
“It is possible to check the content of vitamins in the blood, if that is what he [the lawyer] means. The person [referring to the lawyer] has no knowledge of medicine and is making inadequate statements”, said the doctor.
Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship and took public post in the country, was arrested in Tbilisi last October, after eight years in self-imposed political exile.
