Expert calls Georgia’s October 26 elections Russia’s ‘pilot operation’

International politics expert Batu Kutelia has characterized Georgia’s October 26 general elections as a potential “pilot operation” orchestrated by Russia to undermine democratic processes. He warned that if this operation succeeds, Russia may attempt to replicate similar tactics in other democracies.

Kutelia emphasized the necessity of an international investigation, stating that “many other pieces of information will emerge” concerning what he described as “unprecedented treason and attempted state capture.” He pointed out the historical significance of these elections, suggesting they could represent a critical juncture not just for Georgia, but for democratic institutions worldwide.

He also criticized certain government figures, accusing them of forming illegal alliances with Russian interests to facilitate electoral interference. “These individuals joined forces with our enemy-Russia-to seize control,” Kutelia remarked, raising concerns about the long-term implications of such actions for Georgia’s sovereignty and democratic integrity.
