Political expert Kakha Gogolashvili has warned that sanctions could extend to businesses supporting the ruling Georgian Dream party if the current regime continues its democratic backsliding.
Speaking on the ongoing political crisis in Georgia, Gogolashvili emphasized the urgent need for resolution. “The political crisis must be addressed in this country; otherwise, businesses don’t have much time left. Processes could begin that destabilize the business environment entirely,” he stated.
Gogolashvili noted that sanctions already undermine the Georgian economy and could expand further. “Sanctions will gradually erode the economy. They won’t stop at government officials. If the regime persists in rolling back democracy, inevitably, sanctions will also target businesses that support the Georgian Dream,” he added.
The expert’s remarks come amid increasing international scrutiny and pressure on Georgia’s government to uphold democratic principles and resolve the political stalemate.
