The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has issued a statement condemning ‘external pressure’ and ‘calls for sabotage’ against the country’s diplomatic service, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to protecting Georgia’s national interests and constitutional objectives.
The ministry firmly denounced what it described as attempts by foreign states to interfere in the functioning of Georgia’s sovereign institutions. “Such actions are unacceptable and undermine the principles of sovereignty and non-interference,” the statement read.
Highlighting the government’s dedication to its European path, the ministry reiterated that Georgia has diligently implemented the EU Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). The ministry emphasized that these efforts have prepared Georgia to engage in EU accession negotiations swiftly when the time comes.
Addressing recent speculation, the statement refuted claims that Georgia has halted negotiations for EU membership. “The decision to defer discussions on EU membership negotiations and to decline budgetary grants from the EU until 2028 does not signify an end to Georgia’s EU integration process,” the ministry asserted.
The ministry urged all parties to respect Georgia’s sovereignty and to recognize the government’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the EU in alignment with the aspirations of the Georgian people.
