Georgia’s relations with the United States and the European Union have reached their lowest point since the country gained independence, according to William Courtney, former US Ambassador to Georgia.
Speaking in an interview with Voice of America, Courtney attributed this decline to the policies of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
In the interview, Courtney alleged Ivanishvili’s recent claims to meet the US Ambassador to Georgia was an effort to mitigate voter concerns ahead of the October 26 general elections.
He added that Georgian Dream appeared to be aware of the significant portion of Georgians who favor stronger ties with the US and was keen to avoid alienating these voters.
