The French Government has voiced its concern over the ongoing situation in Georgia, where protests against the government’s decision to delay EU accession talks have been met with allegations of repression. France is particularly troubled by reports of violence against protesters and journalists, calling for the right to peaceful assembly to be upheld.
”Fundamental freedoms, political pluralism and civil society must be respected,” the statement reads.
The French government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Georgian people and their European aspirations, which it insists must not be compromised.
”Alongside its European partners, France will continue to maintain strong ties with the Georgian population and support its European aspirations, which must not be betrayed,” the statement emphasized.
