Ruling party Georgian Dream(GD) Executive Secretary, Mamuka Mdinaradze, has claimed that US Senator Jim Risch has long-standing connections with the so-called “deep state.” Mdinaradze made the statement following US President Donald Trump’s endorsement of the Idaho Republican for re-election.
“Yesterday’s opposition excitement was driven by Trump’s statement supporting Jim Risch. Naturally, Trump would not support a Democrat… However, for the sake of objectivity, it should be noted that Senator Risch has always been distinguished by his strong ties to the ‘deep state’ and by amplifying its narratives,” Mdinaradze wrote.
According to him, the situation leaves only two possible conclusions: “Either Jim Risch will clearly distance himself from his past political stances—or, unfortunately, suspicions that the ‘deep state’ still maintains its influence will be confirmed.”
Mdinaradze emphasized that Georgia’s strongest weapon is the truth, stating that the country must remain vigilant and well-informed.
Risch, a senior Republican senator, has been a vocal advocate for stronger US-Georgia relations and was instrumental in introducing the MEGOBARI Act. The legislation, which is set to be reviewed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on March 27, aims to impose sanctions on individuals seen as “undermining democracy” in Georgia.
