GD MP: UK to be used as “tool against Georgia” for destabilization

Member of the Georgian parliamentary majority and Chairman of the Culture Committee, Giorgi Gabunia, has stated that there is an ongoing effort to destabilize Georgia’s internal political processes. Speaking to journalists, Gabunia expressed concerns over foreign influence and the potential use of the United Kingdom as a tool against Georgia.

According to Gabunia, the so-called “deep state” has shifted its focus from the United States to the UK. “We remember well how USAID spent vast financial resources over the years to incite civil unrest and revolutions in Georgia. Fortunately, those efforts failed. As a result, USAID was pushed into the background, and a new British financial resource has emerged. We saw this in the recent statement by the UK Foreign Office. The fact remains – the deep state has now brought the United Kingdom to the forefront, and we expect it to be used as a weapon against Georgia,” he stated.

Gabunia also addressed the public, emphasizing that it makes no difference whether it is American or British money being spent to instigate unrest in the country. He stressed that the Georgian government will respond appropriately using all available legal means.

“I want to tell the public one thing – it does not matter whether it’s American or British money being spent in Georgian politics. Their goals remain the same: to provoke civil unrest and trigger revolutionary scenarios in Georgia. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and wise. We will not allow anyone to undermine Georgia’s sovereignty or question its independence. The government will act within the legal framework to ensure an adequate response to all threats,” Gabunia concluded.
