Gia Japaridze, a member of the Unity-National Movement opposition, on Friday warned the country was being left out of emerging European security discussions, as geopolitical dynamics shift across the continent amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
In his comments, the politician expressed concerns that Georgia was not involved in the ongoing talks shaping a new European security framework. Speaking on the matter, he suggested that critical issues previously overlooked were now being addressed in diplomatic negotiations.
“Events are developing very quickly. Negotiations are underway in several directions, and a new European security architecture is taking shape. Issues that were previously buried deep are now at the forefront. This shift is, of course, linked to certain changes in the foreign policy of the United States,” Japaridze said.
However, he lamented Georgia’s absence from these discussions, attributing it to the current government’s international standing.
“Unfortunately, Georgia is nowhere in this process. There are several reasons for this – the country has a sanctioned, de facto government that is in isolation. This administration is failing to take steps that would integrate Georgia into the security and prosperity framework we have always aspired to,” he added.
