The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has announced the appointment of three new ambassadors to key diplomatic posts in Europe and Asia.
Konstantine Kavtaradze has been named Georgia’s new Ambassador to the Slovak Republic. Kavtaradze, a long-serving diplomat, has held multiple positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in Georgian diplomatic missions since 2000. Before this appointment, he served as Georgia’s Ambassador to Cyprus and as Deputy Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe.
Sophie Katsarava will serve as Georgia’s new Ambassador to Ireland. She previously represented Georgia as Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and served as the country’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization from 2021 to 2024. Katsarava was also a Member of Parliament and Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee from 2016 to 2019. In 2016, she was honored with Queen Elizabeth II’s Award for her diplomatic work.
In Malaysia, Irakli Asashvili has been appointed as Georgia’s Ambassador. Asashvili has a long-standing career in the diplomatic service, having worked in both the central office of the Foreign Ministry and various overseas missions. From 2018 to 2023, he served as Ambassador to Indonesia and previously held the position of Consul General in both Trabzon and Istanbul, Turkey. Since June 2024, he had been acting as Chargé d’Affaires in Malaysia.
