Expert Zaal Anjaparidze has criticized the upcoming Georgi Chooses European Union march, labeling it as an event orchestrated by external agents with hidden agendas. In a post addressing the protest, which is set to take place in Tbilisi on October 20 evening, Anjaparidze claimed that the rally’s declared goal to “show the West” is evidence of outside influence. He suggested that the event is organized by “one-sided agents” and funded externally, alluding to foreign sources of financial support.
Anjaparidze expressed skepticism about the rally’s true purpose, warning that it could escalate into provocations. He remarked, “The participants will be the same as in the April-June rallies. Many likely don’t even know how many countries are in the European Union, but they will attend because it’s a trendy thing to do or because propaganda has misled them”.
The expert also downplayed the potential size and impact of the rally, suggesting that, like previous protests, it may not attract significant public support.
“There will be as many participants as before when they failed to rally most people. They’ll make some noise and then disappear,” Anjaparidze added. He further hinted at a pessimistic scenario where the event could lead to provocations, raising concerns about potential unrest.
The Georgia Chooses EU march, organized by several non-governmental organizations, aims to demonstrate the public’s desire for closer ties with the European Union. The march will begin at 7 pm from the following four locations: Marjanishvili Square, Heroes’ Square, Republic Square, and 300 Aragveli Square, ultimately converging at Freedom Square, where participants will gather to show their support for Georgia’s European integration. President Salome Zourabichvili is expected to join the march.
