Five years have passed since Georgians were allowed to travel visa free in the EU’s Schengen Zone.
More than half a million Georgian citizens have conducted more than a million and a half visits to the EU since the agreement came into play, Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili stated on Monday.
“Today is the fifth anniversary the visa-free regime came into force with the European Union, so I congratulate everyone on this important date. We, the whole government, have worked very hard for this. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to achieving this result,” Garibashvili said.
He stated that working on the visa free travel agreement with the EU began back in 2013, under the Georgian Dream leadership.
“The government worked hard and we completed this process in December 2015. The EU considered these works satisfactory and after about one year the visa regime was lifted and our citizens are now able travel to EU countries without a visa,” Garibashvili said.
Georgians are able to enter and stay in the Schengen Zone for 90 days in any 180-day period without visas.
