Georgia’s fifth President allegedly targeted with eggs upon return to Georgia

Fifth President Salome Zourabichvili was allegedly targeted with eggs upon her return to Georgia from the Munich Security Conference in Europe, domestic media reported on Tuesday.

While no footage of the incident has surfaced online, the report draws parallels to a similar attack on former Prime Minister and the leader of the For Georgia opposition Giorgi Gakharia, who was egged at the airport the previous day. In Gakharia’s case, videos of the event were shared online by the individuals involved, who were seen insulting and cursing him before throwing eggs.

Gakharia has since responded to the alleged attack on Zourabichvili expressing his support. In a Facebook post, he criticized Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, implying that he was behind the attacks.

“Imagine the terrified Ivanishvili’s face when he gave the order to attack a woman with eggs, and remember this every time Ivanishvili Bidzina forgets to talk to us about dignity, love of the homeland, and Georgian traditions,” wrote Gakharia.
