The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku as part of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference. Held on the sidelines of the event, the meeting highlighted the “deepening strategic partnership between the two nations”, according to a statement from the Georgian Government’s administration.
During the talks, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in several sectors, including energy, transportation, and regional security. Joint projects of regional significance were also discussed, particularly those under the Middle Corridor initiative, which both leaders see as essential for enhancing connectivity and energy security across the region.
“We had a very friendly and productive meeting regarding all topics,” Kobakhidze told the media. “One of the important topics we talked about was energy and energy security, connectivity. We are very connected by important strategic projects, and we are working together to deepen cooperation in this direction.”
In addition to their discussions on economic cooperation, the leaders addressed shared security concerns, with both parties pledging to support peace and stability efforts. Kobakhidze extended an invitation to Aliyev for an official visit to Georgia, reciprocating an invitation from Aliyev for a visit to Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev congratulated Kobakhidze on the recent victory of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party in Georgia’s parliamentary elections, emphasizing that the results reflect the will of the Georgian people. Kobakhidze expressed gratitude for the congratulatory remarks, reaffirming the “fraternal relations” between the two countries, as noted by Azerbaijani state news agency Azertach.
Prime Minister Kobakhidze will also participate in various panel discussions and deliver a speech at the climate summit, which runs from November 11 to 13 in Baku. The conference, a high-profile event for discussing global climate challenges, is expected to provide opportunities for dialogue on issues intersecting climate, economic development, and regional cooperation.
