The Georgian Dream government has announced the creation of a new “Government Efficiency Department” “aimed at enhancing the oversight and implementation” of executive branch decisions.
The decision was unveiled during the Government’s Monday session led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, with details provided by Levan Zhorzholiani, head of the government administration.
The newly established department will oversee the effective implementation of government decisions across all levels of the executive branch. As part of the restructure, the Internal Audit Service will be transformed into this new department, tasked with ensuring greater efficiency in government operations, he said.
Additionally, the State Audit Service will introduce real-time auditing, allowing for assessments of ongoing projects, marking a shift from the previous practice of auditing only past actions.
Zhorzholiani stressed that the creation of the Government Efficiency Department was “in line with the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability”.
The proposed bill will now be submitted to the Georgian Dream-controlled parliament for approval.
