More than ten thousand Georgian fans will attend each match of the UEFA Euro 2024, thanks to a government initiative subsidising flights. Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Monday announced at a government meeting that the project has been implemented successfully.
“Tomorrow, the Georgian national team starts competing in the European Championship. This is a day we have awaited for many years, especially in the last three months after winning our ticket to the European Championship. For the first time in history, the Georgian flag will be raised at the highest level of a football tournament, and this brings incredible emotion to each of us,” said Kobakhidze.
The ticket price for the subsidised flights is 195 euros, making it easier for fans to travel to Germany. “We are thrilled that more than ten thousand Georgian fans will attend each match. This project has been very successful. I wish the boys the best of luck and am confident they will play with the same dedication as when they won the ticket to the European Championship. We have players to be proud of, and I want to wish them all the best. The most important goal is to advance from the group stage, and with their determination, they can achieve this important success,” Kobakhidze added.
The first group of Georgian football supporters departed from Tbilisi International Airport to Düsseldorf on Sunday. They are heading to Germany to cheer on the Georgian national football team at UEFA Euro 2024. These charter flights, including the one on June 16th, are subsidised by the Georgian government and operated by Eurowings, Wizz Air, Hi Sky, and Georgian Wings. The flight schedules are aligned with the Georgian national football team’s calendar.
Flights are available from Tbilisi and Kutaisi to Dortmund, Hamburg, Cologne, and Düsseldorf. As of now, 17 charter flights have been scheduled, and 5,220 tickets have been sold. Football supporters have had the opportunity to purchase subsidised airfare since May 24th on TKT.ge, an online portal. Additionally, discounted tickets are available online for Georgian citizens, who are required to present tickets to the football match to avail the discount. Otherwise, they will have to pay the full price for airfare. Passengers will receive an air ticket via email and are required to arrive at the airport three hours before departure time. The one-way ticket price is 195 euros, making a round-trip cost 390 euros.
