Georgian Gov’t invites OSCE/ODIHR observers for October parliamentary race

The Georgian Foreign Ministry extended an invitation to Matteo Mecacci, the Director of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, on Monday, requesting the deployment of observers for the forthcoming parliamentary elections on October 26.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry reiterated the Georgian Government’s commitment to ensuring “transparent, free, and fair elections, in accordance with international standards and best European democratic practices.”

The letter also underscored Tbilisi’s “eagerness to facilitate the effective execution of observer duties”.

February has been designated as the timeframe for inviting observers, as outlined in the Government’s plan for meeting the European Union conditions necessary for initiating accession talks with Tbilisi. This plan was unveiled in December, subsequent to the country’s attainment of candidate status for EU membership earlier that same month.
